The Whitefire Theatre Solofest Presents: The Pink Hulk: One Women’s Journey to Find The Superhero Within

Written and Performed by Valerie David

Directed by Padraic Lillis

This is a play about one women and two cancers.

Valerie David was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 1999 and then, in 2015 she found a lump in her breast…I cannot imagine how hard it is to have cancer once, but twice…unfathomable.

Ms David fought hard and is able to perform this remarkable play because of her strength and the strength and love of those around her.  Through this play she describes in vivid and often hilarious detail how cancer effects the more intimate moments of your life.  Where some might be thinking of the pain to come, Ms David, probably due to her previous experience with cancer, was more worried about the immediate effects cancer would have on her love life.  So she takes us through her attempts to fulfill herself physically…while she still can.  Of course there’s plenty of time spent on her treatment and her cycling a marathon while still on chemo and how she took control of her hair loss by shaving her own head and all the support and love that surrounded her and still does. But the joy of this performance is in the honesty and the openness and the wonderfully warm and inclusive women that is Valerie David.

She shares with us her highs and lows, her pain and her strength as well as her fear.  There’s a lot to take in with this play.  Ms David takes possession of the stage and doesn’t let up, as if the need to share her story with us is the most important thing in her life.  It’s a perfect way to show us her triumph over this darkness, by sharing the transforming light within herself.

This play has been touring the US, this particular performance was the first on the West Coast I believe, but I’m sure she will be back and there is plenty of information of the continuing tour on her facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pinkhulkplay/

Ms David has the kind of infectious spirit and deeply inspiring story that needs more than a one women show…how about a series?

Hi highly recommend you catch a show, you wont be sorry!!
